Matt Donnelly is an associate with Petefish, Immel, Hird, Johnson, Leibold & Sloan, LLP in Lawrence, Kansas. His practice is focused on civil litigation, business transactions, guardianship/conservatorship, consumer protection, employment law, intellectual property, and administrative law.
Matt has considerable experience at both the trial and appellate level, and he has obtained favorable decisions in over 50 cases decided by the Kansas Court of Appeals and Kansas Supreme Court. Matt has successfully asserted unlawful employment practices on behalf of individuals; defended construction companies from claims of defective repairs and consumer protection violations; negotiated the sale of businesses; represented individuals and businesses in real estate disputes; achieved Letters of Guardianship and Conservatorship for adults with disabilities; and represented parties before the Kansas Civil Service Board. Matt also enjoys working with creative clients regarding the protection of intellectual property, including licensing and other issues.
Prior to joining Petefish, Matt practiced at the Topeka law firm, Henson, Hutton, Mudrick & Gragson, LLP, one of the oldest and most respected firms in the capital city; and prior to that he served the State of Kansas as general counsel at the Lansing Correctional Facility, the largest prison in the state. Matt earned his undergraduate degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College and his juris doctorate from the University of Kansas.
Matt is a longtime Lawrence resident who enjoys watching and playing sports, hunting around Clinton Lake, and working at his family’s small farm west of town.
